Forthcoming rides

The starting location will display in the map window below when you click on its title.

Showing:Fritham

Fritham Sunday 12th July 2009 (SU230140)
From here you can ride along the RUPP leading northwards from Eyeworth Pond and from there, onto the track that leads towards Hale before turning back towards Fordingbridge and picking up on Hampton Ridge to get back to Fritham. Other options from this starting point are eastwards through Kings Garn Gutter and circle down through Minstead and Bolderwood for a slightly less sticky ride but with some ups and downs. Alternatively, Hampton Ridge itself can take you through to Hasley Inclosure and thence to the Red Shoot Inn and Milkham Inclosure before riding back through Slufters and back across Stoney Cross to Minstead.

Whiteparish Sunday 26th July 2009 (SU246236)Out of forest
The map reference given is the centre of the village. The doctors surgery is close by so without too much searching we should all meet up satisfactorily. We haven't started from here before but we have certainly taken it in as part of a ride around the Pepperbox Hill area. The general plan is to head northwards to the area bounded by West Tytherley, Pitton and the Winterslow villages and discover the bridleways and woodland tracks. Volunteer leaders for a particular route will be most welcome.

Shere Sunday 9th August 2009 (TQ077479)All day ride Out of forest
The ideal starting point is a muddy lay by just south of the village of Shere but we won’t all get in there so the doctors surgery car park east of the village and just south off the A25 at 077 479 ought to accommodate us. The ride takes in the Greensands Way, Holmbury Hill, Leith Hill (the highest point in the South of England) and the North Downs Way near Newlands Corner, east of Guildford, and if we take the route I have in mind, a terrific downhill swoop at the end to take us back to the cars. It is proposed to be an all day ride, so we might have to add a few loops in up and down the North Downs but hey, we are a mountain bike club.

Hatchet Pond Sunday 23rd August 2009 (SU369016)All day ride
Again another location visited at this time three years ago (although we have been here since then but at warmer times of the year). The surrounds of Diltons Farm itself have been made good and are tolerable riding; it's just the tracks leading into and away from it that need attention now. Fortunately there are one or two streams and ponds nearby for getting the worst of the crud off yourself and your bike after traversing this jewel of the New Forest. Alternatively, you could avoid it all by heading in the Frame Heath, Ladycross and Denny Lodge direction

Isle of Wight Sunday 6th September 2009 (SZ333955)All day ride Out of forest
This will be a day ride starting from the Lymington ferry terminal and starting on the Island at Yarmouth. We can't guarantee that it won't rain but we can guarantee that it will be a fun day out. Whatever happens, the choice of riding is excellent, the views from the ridges are stunning and the pubs are friendly and welcoming. Remember to bring loads of money for the ferry, the pub, the catering facilities on the ferry and most importantly, a selection of coinage to feed the meter at the car park exit barrier or your visit to Lymington could be longer than you planned. TIMINGS AND OTHER DETAILS TO BE ANNOUNCED

Goodwood Sunday 20th September 2009 (SU898113)All day ride Out of forest
This is a much enjoyed ride around some of the best hills and woodland tracks in this part of Sussex. There was also a good pub for a lunch stop at Amberley although this happened only because we had to many technical stops, that we didn't make it to Arundel for the pub on the river just North of the castle grounds. Who knows, maybe we may well sample that hostelry this time. A great day out.

Moyles Court Sunday 4th October 2009 (SU164083)
This is a popular location situated at the Moyles Court sand pit. From here most of the available routes start with a short sharp rise but once that is out of the way, there are options for rolling on across Rockford Common (firm going) towards Linwood, the Red Shoot and Milkham, or taking a course over Ibsley Common (soft, gritty sand and a little bit of a slog) towards Abbot's Well and Hampton Ridge. For a change, we might even make a foray westwards across the River Avon and have a thrash around Ringwood Forest, Boveridge Heath, Ashley Heath and Horton Common, not a usual destination for NewFORCe but well worth a visit. The Ringwood Forest option has been ridden before from this start point and is usually well received by those who take part.

Swinley Forest Sunday 18th October 2009 (SU877661)Out of forest

Here follows an extract from the Gorrick website:-

Swinley Forest is an area of Windsor Forest located between Bracknell and Bagshot to the west of the A322. Cycling is permitted on hard tracks and within a specific expert mountain bike area. It is a condition of cycling within Swinley Forest that you must hold a cycle permit if over 16 years of age. As times are changing, it's now essential to comply with the requirements of English Nature. The forest is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week with access available from a number of entrances. The car park at The Look Out Discovery Centre is open in the summer from 8am to 8pm at which time the entrance barrier is raised but you can leave after this at any time. The Discovery Centre building including Day Permit purchase, toilets and cafe is open every day except Christmas and Boxing Day from 10am to 5pm. The Swinley Forest Map shows the boundaries of the areas available to ride. If you are not familiar with the land it is recommended that you purchase this full colour detailed map from The Discovery Centre. The purpose built singletrack trails within the Expert Mountain Bike Area are not marked so find a likely looking track and ride it.
